Be Inspired...

Life is a lot of work. What is it that gives us the strength to continue when we are tired and burned out?  Sometimes an inspirational idea can help us renew ourselves and be filled with strength to fulfill our life's purpose. Inspiration comes in many forms. However, the root of all inspiration is the idea that our lives are meaningful. Inspiration is knowing that what I do matters deeply to the universe.  When you have the feeling that your actions are meaningful, you will become filled with strength and vigor to fulfill your life's purpose.     WITH LOVE FROM OJ THORPE

HOW CHIEF OBAFEMI AWOLOWO DETHRONED THE ALAAFIN OF OYO; OBA ADEYEMI ADENRAN IN 1955.

Do you still remember how Chief Obafemi Awolowo dethroned the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Adeyemi Adeniran who married 200 wives in 1955 - Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the political leader of the old western region of Nigeria was not a friend to the old Alaafin of Oyo, oba Adeymi Adeniran - Oba Adeyemi was playing friendship with the NCNC an opposition party to the Action Group, a party set up by Chief Obafemi Awolowo - Following his support for the NCNC, a rival party, Awolowo plotted his dethronement in 1955 Power is no doubt an intoxicating factor in the lives of many – men and women alike. This is really the reason many come out on different platforms in different levels of the society to hustle for it. Eventually though not many are able to effectively handle and maneuver through it. That is why it is said that most men can stand in the face of adversity, but the true test of a man is the way he acts when he is given power. The struggle for supremacy is nothing new to man, and in ...

COVID-19: The Many illogicalities of a Privileged Nation. By: Favour OLABANJI, CFRN

“The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool” - Williams Shakespeare When illogicalities or illogical acts is the norm in any setup or establishment whatsoever, it is rather obvious that there is either a dead end or calamity looms in the corridor of such establishments and that's the current state of our dear Nation. This is not to celebrate our present unfortunate condition but to establish the privilege we have experienced as a nation compared to other developed climes. The initially praised and exalted governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde returned from a Nigerian-American Business Forum, which was held in Tampa, Florida, the United States in early March. Despite being warned against it, the governor held a People's Democratic Party (PDP) rally in his State capital (Ibadan) and  even joked about COVID-19 in mid-march. “They said we should not do this rally because of coronavirus. It was their leader that said coronavirus is in their ...

A 1965 Time Magazine article on emerging Nigerian millionaires

Friday, Sep. 17, 1965 Africa: The Nigerian Millionaires Along with pride in status and problems of self-government, independence for the 31 nations of black Africa means the emergence of black businessmen. A few flourish on cottage industries, that early stage of every economy; some are the opportunistic agents of the colonial companies that formerly ruled them. Now, however, more of Africa's new businessmen are not only university-trained and experienced but surprisingly sophisticated in trade and finance. In Equatorial Africa, it is no longer unusual to see a $200,000 letter of credit emerging from the folds of a native robe. Nowhere is the new African businessman doing better than in Nigeria, black Africa's most populous and most prosperous nation. With a population of 55 million and an economy that grows 4% each year, the number of Nigerian millionaires is growing almost as fast as the country itself. Peanuts & Petroleum. Even before Britai...

WE ARE CLASSMATE ONLY IN SCHOOL, AFTER SCHOOL EVERYBODY FIND HIS OR HER CLASS IN LIFE !!! :By A. I. Mustapha

I was thinking this morning..... about our speed in this race of life. Last Sunday, I was privileged to attend the wedding of the daughter of my good friend and former classmate in the College. As I sat as part of the guests at the reception, listening to the proud MOB (mother of the bride) giving her speech, I reflected on how far we've come as former classmates in school. I considered how her children are of marriage-able age (the youngest just turned 20), while mine are still teenagers. I recalled another classmate of ours whose son just graduated as a medical doctor, but mine just about entering Secondary school. As I pondered on why it seems I am lagging behind, the face of another of our classmate flashed by and I was reminded that his children are still in Nursery school While some of my classmates are yet to find their missing ribs. At this point, it dawned on me that though we were all classmates and graduated together same year, life has shuffled us and placed us in d...

"My Quarrel with Murtala Muhammed Was One of the Reasons He Overthrew Gowon" By Chief T. O. Akindele

Otunba Theophilus Oluwole Akindele was the Director-General of Communications at the time the late Nigerian Head of State, Gen. Murtala Ramat Muhammed, was the Federal Commissioner for Communications during the regime of Gen. Yakubu Gowon. The 88-year-old retired civil servant who is billed to launch his memoirs at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Lagos on Thursday, provides a fresh insight into the bickering that led to the overthrow of the Gowon regime in 1975. He speaks with VINCENT AKANMODE. My Civil Service Days I retired from the Nigerian Civil Service on the 15th of September, 1975 after spending about 32 years in the service. But I did not retire voluntarily. I was forcibly retired. That was during the military era when about 260 civil servants were retired. And I was the last to be retired on September 15, 1975. In fact, since then, the civil service has not come back to what it used to be during our own time, because so many experienced people were...
