THE WEEKEND SPECIAL (Slice Of Life)

Sometimes we let little things destroy our hope of becoming something in life; the best revenge you can give to someone who does not believe in you is to be successful. I was talking to a friend in School and she told me about a girl who was forced by her parents to study Medicine, but she wanted to study Visual Arts.

This particular girl has won so many awards in Visual Arts, both home and abroad right from when she was a kid, but her parents had the notion that she had to study a professional course to be successful in life. They did this because all their rich friends had children studying Law, Medicine, Engineering and the like.

She was then forced to study Medicine which she had no passion for. This made her devastated and because of this act, when she was admitted into the University, she didn’t concentrate.

This particular girl started skipping classes, failing all her exams purposely, clubbing and even posting X-rated pictures of herself online. In short, she was among the top 5 runs girls at Allen Avenue.

SHE DID ALL THIS JUST TO SPITE HER PARENTS

When her parents found out, they tried doing their possible best to convince her to study Medicine, but this girl just kept on doing things to make her parents notice her,(*didnt they notice her when they tried to convince her otherwise?*) therefore spiting them.

Now, I don’t know how this girl's story ends, because she is still doing the same things as she is yet to graduate from School.

BUT IF WE LOOK AT IT

1, Fine, her parents forced her, but she could have just studied the so-called professional course and finished the program then go back to study her visual arts or better still, go do a professional program in Visual Arts so as to save up some time and still live her dream.

2, She wanted to do something she loved doing, but her parents were only focused on what the society was saying to them (FOLLOW THE MONEY).

3, At the end of it all, in future she will look back and regret her actions and wish she just studied this program (at least she would have gotten a degree) instead of wasting those years, living a wayward life.

Many students are forced to study what they don’t intend studying for one reason or the other. Every year which in turn leads them to somewhere great or otherwise, I just feel YOUR PASSION is greater than all the riches of the world.

YOUR PASSION IS WEALTH

YOUR PASSION HAS A DIFFERENT SIGNATURE

YOUR PASSION IS YOU

Our friend needs help and advice on what to do, she is confused on the next step to take and also remember, your advice will go a long way in advising people and parents everywhere

I remain my humble self

DREAMS OF A perfect FAMILY VANDALISED BY A FAKE IFA PRIEST

Who is man to God? Who is God to man How much distance do our prayers cover by land? In relation to our circumstances and time What does man think of what he sees? And what does God see of what man thinks Emmanuel; God with us But Immanuel on Alakija Street is having spiritual blurred visions On a trip to the priest to inquire of what the future holds, Inheriting gold and paying exceedingly half its worth to verify if it’s gold The tales of Alamu the one with the gift of palmistry Brothers killed brothers, Because the other has been identified to be, The one who will inherit the gift of the fathers, Which of my kids shall be successful? Answers of which the priest shall deliver A gift of wine, a gift of hen, The fake priest gets fatter, Worshipers of the deity that sip champagne and eat gizzards Whilst living off the believers hazard Your mother is a witch Your sister is the glitch Until your siblings die your lineage shall not succeed, These priests we...

MAY YOUR ROAD BE ROUGH By Tai Solarin, Jan. 1, 1964

I am not cursing you; I am wishing you what I wish myself every year. I therefore repeat, may you have a hard time this year, may there be plenty of troubles for you this year! If you are not so sure what you should say back, why not just say, ‘Same to you’? I ask for no more. Our successes are conditioned by the amount of risk we are ready to take. Earlier on today I visited a local farmer about three miles from where I live. He could not have been more than fifty-five, but he said he was already too old to farm vigorously. He still suffered, he said, from the physical energy he displayed as a farmer in his younger days. Around his hut were two pepper bushes. There were kokoyams growing round him. There were snail shells which had given him meat. There must have been more around the banana trees I saw. He hardly ever went to town to buy things. He was self-sufficient.  The car or the bus, the television or the telephone, the newspaper, Vietnam or Red China were nothing to ...

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, indigo: Who is dancing with these rainbow colours in the sky? Air after rain, slanting sun: mountains and passes turning blue in each changing moment. Fierce battles that year: bullet holes in village walls. These mountains so decorated, look even more beautiful today. Artwork via: Forbes
