THE STIGMA OF UNWANTED PREGNANCY

Stigma is like a disease that kills people or drains the energy of the victim. As a result, they feel insecure and unwanted in the society and sometimes in their family.

Unwanted pregnancy they call it. They tend to give her space, gossip about her and make fun of her. She was tagged a disappointment.

So, is the life of Bola, who got pregnant while in the higher institution(*you wanted to ask a question. You never asked it*), at first she wanted to abort, but since she was a very religious & a principled person, she decided to take a brave step to keep it.

At first, she couldn’t face her family, she had to go to her grand mum's place and when her parents found out, they tagged her a failure that she was a big disappointment, that they never wanted to set their eyes on her again.

At first, life was not easy for her, but she had no choice. She couldn’t keep on hiding from school. She resumed and people that called themselves friends started drifting from her and she became the main subject on campus. When she walk by, they whispered to themselves, "SO IS THE LIFE OF A PREGNANT TEENAGER OR YOUTH"

She started avoiding crowded places. She would  come early for lectures, and immediately the lecturer leaves, she runs to her grand mom's
place to avoid critics. She had no friend during this period and because of this, the thinking and critics got to her so much that she committed suicide.

At this point everybody that knew her started feeling sorry for her, even her parents mourned her.

Looking at this unfortunate act, it can be seen that most of us are guilty of this. It might not be that pregnant girl in school, it might be the kid who doesn’t have much, it might even be that dull student in the class and because of this we look down on them.

Bola died because of the ignorance of the society. Her own parents turned their backs on her. She couldn’t stand the critics and stigma anymore and the only way out she knew was to kill herself.

THE QUESTION IS, WHO KILLED BOLA?

  1. The people who contributed to her stigmatization (school students, parents, friends etc) helped in her death
I can't say she wasn't part of it
She let their negativity get yo her. Yes, its not easy living in a society where unwanted pregnancy 🤰🏾 is frowned upon. If she knew she could not take the heat she could have aborted the baby because suicide is also frowned upon religiously
I'm not saying abortion is the right choice but she ended up killing both the baby and herself too.
    This is an assisted suicide
Because the society aided in her death.

DREAMS OF A perfect FAMILY VANDALISED BY A FAKE IFA PRIEST

Who is man to God? Who is God to man How much distance do our prayers cover by land? In relation to our circumstances and time What does man think of what he sees? And what does God see of what man thinks Emmanuel; God with us But Immanuel on Alakija Street is having spiritual blurred visions On a trip to the priest to inquire of what the future holds, Inheriting gold and paying exceedingly half its worth to verify if it’s gold The tales of Alamu the one with the gift of palmistry Brothers killed brothers, Because the other has been identified to be, The one who will inherit the gift of the fathers, Which of my kids shall be successful? Answers of which the priest shall deliver A gift of wine, a gift of hen, The fake priest gets fatter, Worshipers of the deity that sip champagne and eat gizzards Whilst living off the believers hazard Your mother is a witch Your sister is the glitch Until your siblings die your lineage shall not succeed, These priests we...

MAY YOUR ROAD BE ROUGH By Tai Solarin, Jan. 1, 1964

I am not cursing you; I am wishing you what I wish myself every year. I therefore repeat, may you have a hard time this year, may there be plenty of troubles for you this year! If you are not so sure what you should say back, why not just say, ‘Same to you’? I ask for no more. Our successes are conditioned by the amount of risk we are ready to take. Earlier on today I visited a local farmer about three miles from where I live. He could not have been more than fifty-five, but he said he was already too old to farm vigorously. He still suffered, he said, from the physical energy he displayed as a farmer in his younger days. Around his hut were two pepper bushes. There were kokoyams growing round him. There were snail shells which had given him meat. There must have been more around the banana trees I saw. He hardly ever went to town to buy things. He was self-sufficient.  The car or the bus, the television or the telephone, the newspaper, Vietnam or Red China were nothing to ...

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, indigo: Who is dancing with these rainbow colours in the sky? Air after rain, slanting sun: mountains and passes turning blue in each changing moment. Fierce battles that year: bullet holes in village walls. These mountains so decorated, look even more beautiful today. Artwork via: Forbes
