Is this what it has come to
Is this what it has become
Who would have thought so
Who would have believed we will be in this form
*What happened to us*

I remember when we became one
Who would have known this day will come
What happened to the promise we made
And our plans to remain one
Instead it has started to fade
And we have forgotten where we came from
*What happened to us*

What happened to love and unity
What happened to peace and prosperity
Instead we build division and strive
And no longer value our lives
We start fights and live in lies
*What happened to us*

I still remember our promises
But now we are in pieces
What happened to in health and sickness
With children or in barrenness
Anger or happiness
What happened to i will forsake anger for your sake
And follow you anywhere even into a lake
*What happened to us*

We said in health and sickness
Wealth and wretchedness
For better for worse
Even though we argue and curse
You will remain in my heart
And from you i never want to part

But now
It's all forgotten
And I can do nothing
So I ask
*What happened to us*

It’s Dangerous to use broom to mash ‘ewedu,’ Gastroenterologist warns

Using a small bunch of broomsticks, known as ijabe, to mash ewedu (mallow-leaves) is very common among Nigerians when preparing the slimy soup. However, medical experts have said that the age-old practice is actually fraught with dangers. Ewedu is also known as Rama ayoyo  among Hausa, while the Igbo call it Kerenkere. Dr. Adegboyega Akere of the Department of Medicine, University College Hospital, Ibadan, on Wednesday, advised women and caterers to desist from the practice. Akere, a Consultant Gastroenterologist, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan that food handlers should always use blender for ewedu and every other ingredient used in cooking it. “They should not use broom to mash the vegetable,” he said. Akere said this is because ewedu soup that is mashed with broomsticks could still retain splinters of the broom, however minute. He said that when eaten, the splinters from the broomsticks could get trapped inside the oesophagus or the intestine. Akere ...
