TAKE ME BACK By: Olafimihan & Pelumzy_Pan

I just realized it was all my mistake,
The stars of the night are questioning me,
My mind won't stop taunting me,
Why did you let Alabi slip away?
I need you now, more than I ever did.
*Olafimihan*

Mama warned me but I turned deaf ears to her whirling warnings,
Thought I found rose but it was a colourful thorny leaf.
I took you for a purple jar but turned out to be a black vessel.
Asake, why do you need me now?
After you left for the comfort of Alade's arm.
*Pelumzy_Pan*

Alade wasn't the way I thought he was,
The river I thought was flowing was dry,
The honey I saw faraway was bitter leaf shaft,
_Alabi mi owon, òmó ka só tèlé kèru ba ólóse_
My heart kept calling out your name.
*Olafimihan*

Better don't try tricking me with those teasing _oriki,_
You think you can eat your cake and still have it full?
I would have taken bullets for you but you were behind the gun,
I would have sang you love songs but you were gone
Though I waited, not even your shadow was around.
*Pelumzy_Pan*

I wasn't gone, my body left you but my spirit kept yelling your name
_Alade òkó mi_, life without you has been hell,
The tree inside _Oloye Balogun_ house has missed your love song.
_Awelewa òmó Iya Asake_ have always asked after you.
My heart is bleeding for your love.
*Olafimihan*

You remember Idanre hill was our usual point?
I waited there for days under the sun till it set
Till I lost hope, after you pierced my heart and left,
Have you come back to remove your dagger?
Asake, why do you have to treat me in such manner?
*Pelumzy_Pan*

I have bitten the finger of “Had I know"
My heart is bleeding
_Ololufemi_ why not give me another chance to fill that open vacuum.
_Alabi omo la mè já omo ki ló lé gbé lója ti o ta._
*Olafimihan*

Phew! Just that two wrongs can never make a right,
While you were gone, It was as though my rib was stolen.
Now, I am revitalised with you under my arms,
I'll open my caged heart for you to come and queen.
My queen, promise you won't desert me again.
*Pelumzy_Pan*

At last! Awelewa won't keep disturbing me about you,
The tree in _oloye Balogun agbala_ would hear the voice of Alabi,
The footpath to the stream would feel the footsteps of us,
Thanks for allowing me fill the vacuum,
_Alabi mi_ nothing would ever separate us again, not even death.
*Olafimihan*

Indeed, I have found my lost rib in your eyeballs,
Hold my hand as we take a stroll to your household
I shall take kolanuts, salt and wines to your kindred,
When the time is right to ask for your hand,
We will dance around the village square,
From the king's palace to my chamber,
Then we'll spend a long tight night on my bed.

DREAMS OF A perfect FAMILY VANDALISED BY A FAKE IFA PRIEST

Who is man to God? Who is God to man How much distance do our prayers cover by land? In relation to our circumstances and time What does man think of what he sees? And what does God see of what man thinks Emmanuel; God with us But Immanuel on Alakija Street is having spiritual blurred visions On a trip to the priest to inquire of what the future holds, Inheriting gold and paying exceedingly half its worth to verify if it’s gold The tales of Alamu the one with the gift of palmistry Brothers killed brothers, Because the other has been identified to be, The one who will inherit the gift of the fathers, Which of my kids shall be successful? Answers of which the priest shall deliver A gift of wine, a gift of hen, The fake priest gets fatter, Worshipers of the deity that sip champagne and eat gizzards Whilst living off the believers hazard Your mother is a witch Your sister is the glitch Until your siblings die your lineage shall not succeed, These priests we...

MAY YOUR ROAD BE ROUGH By Tai Solarin, Jan. 1, 1964

I am not cursing you; I am wishing you what I wish myself every year. I therefore repeat, may you have a hard time this year, may there be plenty of troubles for you this year! If you are not so sure what you should say back, why not just say, ‘Same to you’? I ask for no more. Our successes are conditioned by the amount of risk we are ready to take. Earlier on today I visited a local farmer about three miles from where I live. He could not have been more than fifty-five, but he said he was already too old to farm vigorously. He still suffered, he said, from the physical energy he displayed as a farmer in his younger days. Around his hut were two pepper bushes. There were kokoyams growing round him. There were snail shells which had given him meat. There must have been more around the banana trees I saw. He hardly ever went to town to buy things. He was self-sufficient.  The car or the bus, the television or the telephone, the newspaper, Vietnam or Red China were nothing to ...

TAPOTI By: Mao Zedong

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, indigo: Who is dancing with these rainbow colours in the sky? Air after rain, slanting sun: mountains and passes turning blue in each changing moment. Fierce battles that year: bullet holes in village walls. These mountains so decorated, look even more beautiful today. Artwork via: Forbes
