FRIENDS AND FOE; HALF WAY TO EARLY DEATH By: Hanif Uzamot (OluwaloniKriss)

I am here today
I might not be there tomorrow
What shall it profit a man that gains the whole world and losses his soul?
Where will man be on the judgement day?

Is there really a place called hell fire?
My head has been aching for a while
Trying to get answers to the puzzle of life!
Life continues with me or without me.

What is friendship?
How can friendship start?
When will friendship ends?
Is there betrayal in friendship?

What's the joy of friendship?
Who is a foe?
How can you identify a foe?
Will a foe be of help in any way!

You can have a friend of 20years
They'll be responsible for your way to early grave.

A friend is not your friend
Until he can go down the grave with you.

During the good times
Your friends will stand by you
They'll wine and dine with you
They'll call you lots of sweet names.

They'll be your driver,
They'll be your cook,
They'll be your servants,
When you have what it takes.

What always happen when the going get rough?
Your friends will become your foes. They will desert you,
And be on the run.

Your friends will turn their back on you,
Let you go through the rough time alone,
They'll backbite you,
They'll tongue lash you bitterly.

They'll paint your images bad,
They'll try and be saint,
Telling people how they tried,
To bring you to right senses then.

Life is life,
Friendship is friendship,
You'll be all alone,
No one to help.

I'll not remember the bad utterances,
Utterances of my enemies,
But will remember the silence of my friends,
A foe who's an enemy will stand up for you.

A foe will be your friend when you needed your real friends,
Will sing sweet songs of hope into your ears,
Will assure you about a hopeful outcome,
Will assure you that it is not over until it is over.

You'll get killed by both friends and foes,
Your life span will be short cycled by friends and foe,
Be learned, And see what friendship and foe is all about.

Open your eyes
And be your friend
Be your foe
You're your friend; you're your foe.

Painful letters By: Marvee

Every time I feel this way This terrifying kind of pain These twitchy palms and muffled sobs These weakened sights and mindless slob I would think of something To put me at ease, anything At times, to leave my world And be someone else, not a dud Often times I would write on plain sheet Write till my limbs felt weak Write till the page is covered in ink Write till the painful times shift.                                              ©-Marvee

THE GCE GIRL By: OLUSEGUN AKINSANYA

Every year we welcome into our community several teenagers between 13 and 17 from far and near. They are both male and female. They have the same mission. They have come to write General Certificate Examination (G.C.E). Most of them are penultimate students in secondary schools. These little fellows have been fixed at centres nearby to write their exams and the people that brought them have accommodation as part of the payment agreement. Some of these children are leaving home for the first time. Some of them look like mom's pets. Immediately they hit the town, you see a lot of ambiance and noise, something like a carnival. They make noise in the morning while looking for water for domestic use and in the evening when they are back from their different centres. It's always a new experience for most of them, and they seem to enjoy it: yea, they seem to enjoy being away from home for a whole month, a kind of escape from the eagle eyes of their parents; they seem to enjoy a t...
