UNDUE INFLUENCE OF PLEASURE OVER BUSINESS



The first lesson in business education that every greenhorn trying to dip his feet into the risky lagoon of business will learn is *business is business.* You don't need to go to a business school or have an MBA to learn it. This knowledge is on the street. Every hustler, every kiosk owner, every cab driver, and about anyone who exchanges goods or services for cash knows that immediately a person allows pleasure or sentiment to creep into his business, he is finished. Serious businessmen are ruthless, first of all with their own self, then with anyone that tries to disrupt the flow of their business.

With all sincerity, everyone is in one business or the other. A preacher is in the business of winning souls, an actor, in the business of entertainment, a teacher in the business of knowledge dispensation. Therefore, living by the principle of business is business, is the foremost knowledge that should be taught in seminaries, teachers training colleges, medical schools, and the foremost of all schools, home.

Marriage is also a serious business. No sentiments! You don't go in if you're just a host and the other fellow is a mere parasite. It's either symbiosis, that is, give and take, or no deal. Don't sell anything on credit; not even your body.

I met a young man several years back, whose business was ruined because he didn't understand this principle. He started a school business and in that locality, he was a champion. He had a lot of kids and he seemed to do just fine. The little success got into his head, he started sleeping with some of the parents of his kids and sexually assaulted one of the pupils. Gradually, the school went down. He winded down the school, relocated to another location, but nothing was ever heard of him since.  This applies to every business. Immediately you allowed your weakness to lead the way, the fall of that business, or ministry or whatever brings food on your table or honour to your life, is imminent.

    This is indeed very true. As a matter of fact we must approach life with a business mindset. Even God is business. We are his ambassadors here. Each time we embark on a new task we must have a business mindset.

THE GCE GIRL By: OLUSEGUN AKINSANYA

Every year we welcome into our community several teenagers between 13 and 17 from far and near. They are both male and female. They have the same mission. They have come to write General Certificate Examination (G.C.E). Most of them are penultimate students in secondary schools. These little fellows have been fixed at centres nearby to write their exams and the people that brought them have accommodation as part of the payment agreement. Some of these children are leaving home for the first time. Some of them look like mom's pets. Immediately they hit the town, you see a lot of ambiance and noise, something like a carnival.
